Audio quality problems

You can't hear your correspondant

If you can't hear your correspondant, check the following points:

  • Your speakers (HP) are noncurrent carrying,
  • Your speakers are not connected to your PC's audio out, or are connected to the wrong one,
  • The speaker's volume is on zero,
  • Window's control /multimedia panel (null or mute volume),
  • The volume is cut off on eConf,
  • Your correspondant isn't transmitting any sound (no activated audio channel)

To check if your speakers are working correctly, you can do audio configuration tests with eConf

Your correspondant can't hear you

If your correspondant can't hear you, check the following points:

  • Your microphone isn't plugged in,
  • Your microphone is cut off,
  • Window's control /multimedia panel (microphone),
  • You are not transmitting any sound to your correspondant (no activated audio channel),
  • The problem is on your correspondant's side.

To check if your microphone is working correctly, you can do audio configuration tests with eConf.

You can hear an echo

If you hear an echo, check the following points:

  • Ask your correspondant to move his speakers away from his microphone,
  • Ask your correspondant to turn the volume of his speakers down,
  • Turn the sound down on your microphone,
  • Ask your correspondant to use headphones,
  • Ask your correspondant to activate the echo cancellation function.

Your correspondant can hear an echo

Under Windows XP, if you have a sound card (ESSDrive for example) which can select several audio sources (control panel, recording options), you must verify that only one audio source is active.
