Use eConf with a firewall or a proxy

To use econf software through a proxy or firewall, the latter
has to be H323 compatible.
eConf and the "ZoneAlarm" FireWall
If you have set-up the " ZoneAlarm " FireWall on your computer,
you have to authorize network access to the eConf application.
If you haven't correctly configured ZoneAlarm to accept
communications with econf, the following message appears, asking if
you accept that eConf accesses the internet.
Tick the option " Remember this answer …" and confirm
with the "Yes" button.
A second message appears asking if you authorize eConf to act as
a server.
Tick the option " Remember this answer …" and confirm
with the "Yes" button as before.
ZoneAlarm is configured to authorize eConf to make and recieve
calls.
eConf and Norton Personal FireWall
If you have set-up" Norton Personal Firewall 2003 " on your
computer, you have to allow the econf application to access the
network.
After launching eConf for the first time, the following message
appears:
Select "Always allow connections to this program on all ports"
in the suggested list under the " What do you want to do ? "
sentence, and confirm with the "OK" button.
A second message appears :
Select "Permit" in the suggested list under the " What do you
want to do ? " sentence, tick the option "Always use this action"
and confirm with the "OK" button.
Norton Personal Firewall is now set-up to let eConf make and
recieve calls.
eConf and the XP FireWall
You can also use eConf with the XP FireWall.
In the 'advanced' tab of your internet connection's properties (
Wanadoo Pro in the example note), check that this fireWall XP is
correctly activated, then click on the 'settings' button to
configurate it:
An 'advanced setting' window appears in the 'services' tab,
click on the 'add' button, so as to indicate the ports to open to
be able to use eConf.
By default, you can establish an audio-video communication but
you cannot be called. Entering calls have to be therefore
authorized.
A ''sevice settings'' window shows-up. You have to then enter
various fields so as to allow the opening of the 1720 connection
port.
- Description of the service : name that is displayed in the
'advanced settings' window : for instance eConf 1720.
- Name of it's machine or it's IP address (for subscriptions with
permanant IP addresses).
- Number of the external port : enter 1720.
- Number of internal port : same as external port, 1720.
- TCP or UDP : select TCP.
Click on the OK button to accept the modifications.
After specifying the port to be opened, you must obtain the
following result in the service tab in FireWall XP's advanced
settings:
You can then confirm the modifications by clicking on OK,
connect to the internet and use eConf.
